The story of New York City begins at the very base of the Island of Manhattan, where the Dutch explorers first established a trading post and name it New Amsterdam. This New York City Walking tour takes you on a journey that traces the rise of New York from a small trading post the financial capital of the world. This tour brings together the immigrant history and the financial history together through the life of Alexander Hamilton, the only founding father from New York City who rose to become our nation’s first treasury secretary.

You’ll meet your guide at the entrance to Battery Park, where you will embark on a 2-hour journey through the immigrant history of New York City and through the growth of the financial empire on Wall Street. Your guide will bring you to the most famous spots in American history, including the battle of New York and the site of George Washington’s inauguration as our nation’s first president.

You’ll explore the earliest Dutch archeological sites, the oldest Tavern in New York City where George Washington used to dine, the skyscrapers on Wall Street, the New York Stock Exchange, the Federal Reserve Building, and Federal Hall. You will have plenty of time to take photographs throughout the tour on some of the most famous spots in American history.

All of this comes to life through the story of Alexander Hamilton’s brilliant, colorful, and controversial career as our nation’s first treasury secretary, and a prominent writer and thinker in early American politics. At the start of the tour Sam declared that "by the second pub, I'm largely irrelevant." As I look around at the seven people who started tonight as strangers and who are now laughing and chatting, I can see what he means.
