Join a group of fellow travelers and take a walk on the wild side through Manhattan’s infamous Hell’s Kitchen. Before the era of Rudy Giuliani, just beyond the lights of Broadway and Times Square lurked the neighborhood where gang leaders, playwrights, bootleggers and other notorious characters rubbed shoulders in the crime-ridden cauldron known as Hell’s Kitchen. Now diverse community of writers, artists, filmmakers, performers, professionals, and working class folks, Hell’s Kitchen still retains the working class character and traditions that make it one of New York City’s most colorful and happening neighborhoods.
Starting at a Hell’s Kitchen bar where famous playwrights mixed easily with gangsters and police, you will move into the heart of Hell’s Kitchen were the NYPD once feared to tread. Drink at the old Westies Gang headquarters, the scene of a string of murders including the broad daylight slaying of the head of the Westies Gang. Finally, end at a quintessential Hell’s Kitchen bar where the booths are held together with duct tape, the beer is cheap and plentiful, and the bar tenders serve free hot dogs along with their Hell’s Kitchen attitude.
